Summary:


The Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing field support services and assisting managers, supervisors, and team members with the implementation of specific Company, and Client Safety and Health policies and procedures. Regulatory compliance, and continual improvement of the overall performance of the Company in a manner that is consistent with the Company’s Core Values. The Safety Coordinator is also responsible for remaining current on changing safety/OSHA regulations and conducting safety training based on established safety standards and company goals.


The Opportunity:


  • Conduct onsite inspections of job sites to determine compliance with established safety regulations and laws.  Documents findings through a written report tracked on computer and updated weekly.  The Safety Coordinator must be able to offer corrective measures, advice and suggestions for maintaining compliance. 
  • Coordinate, implement and monitor the Company Safety and Health Program at various project locations. 
  • Support pre-job safety planning meetings to plan for potential hazards and problems prior to start of job and develop emergency response plans for projects. Develop work safety and health plans on time in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Provide training to Company personnel. 
  • Initiate, coordinate and lead safety meetings and training programs to ensure the effective communication of company policy and procedures. 
  • Assist in the investigation of injury, illness and general liability incidents. 
  • Develop and issue regular safety and health correspondence. 
  • Provide updated information to team members regarding updates to company or regulatory requirement changes. 
  • Self-identify team members that need assistance, training, or support meeting the Company safety and health requirements. 
  • Accompanies all OSHA inspectors during inspections and then compiles a written report of those findings.  The Safety Coordinator must be able to analyze an OSHA report and be able to use legal assistance if necessary.   
  • Understand current local, state and federal safety and health standards.
  • Required to be a competent person in all aspects of construction and be able to utilize specialized equipment such as: confined space monitors, electrical testing, etc. 
  • Ability to inspect and maintain safety related equipment. 
  • Must interact positively with a variety of people and situations. 
  • Familiar with work site flow and the various phases of construction as well as all aspects of construction activities. 
  • Speak publicly at various safety training days or sessions and be able to conduct formal training sessions for employees and outsiders. 
  • Required to attend various training classes and lectures as well as belonging to numerous safety councils and organizations like the AGC, OCA, and county and state safety groups. 
  • Have appropriate oral and written communication skills in order to formulate memos, newsletters, E-mail and other required communication. 
  • Work with estimators, project managers and supervisors for safety on project bidding or pending projects. 

The Qualifications:


Education and Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management or equivalent combinations of technical training and experience. 
  • Targeting 3-5 years of experience with safety and health in the construction industry is preferred. 
  • However, all experience levels will be considered with corresponding changes to the role to align with the career trajectory of the candidate.  
Certifications and Licenses: 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record is required. 
  • Process an BCSP Certification or be willing to work towards one. Be willing to become an Authorized OSHA Instructor (OSHA 500 Class). 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and company safety policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to positively interact and influence personnel to create a safe work environment.
