Position Overview

Mosser Construction Inc. is seeking a construction-minded Estimator to join our Building Division. This position supports building projects delivered through construction manager at risk, design-build, design-bid-build, and other collaborative delivery methods.

Our Estimators do more than complete quantity takeoffs. They help shape projects before construction begins by developing reliable budgets, defining scopes of work, evaluating risk, reviewing constructability, identifying value opportunities, and working collaboratively with owners, designers, trade partners, and operations personnel.

This position offers opportunities for growth and may be filled at various levels based on the candidate's experience, technical expertise, ability to independently lead estimates, and capacity to manage projects of varying size and complexity.

Mosser's Building Division serves a diverse portfolio of educational, higher education, municipal, institutional, industrial, healthcare, and commercial clients. With self-perform capabilities in concrete, masonry, and general trades, our estimating team benefits from direct access to field expertise, real-time construction knowledge, and accurate cost information - allowing us to deliver practical, well-informed solutions for our clients.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead estimates for smaller building projects and assigned portions of larger projects.
• Independently develop project budgets from early design through final pricing.
• Prepare and manage subcontractor bid packages.
• Lead subcontractor solicitation, proposal review, scope leveling, and recommendation development.
• Participate directly in owner, architect, engineer, and project team meetings.
• Present estimate updates and explain significant cost changes.
• Identify project risks, scope gaps, cost-saving opportunities, and constructability concerns.
• Develop general conditions, logistics, phasing, contingency, and escalation assumptions.
• Coordinate estimating input from self-perform departments and operations personnel.
• Lead value engineering studies and cost comparisons for assigned projects.
• Prepare estimate documentation for internal review and final approval.
• Lead project handoff meetings for assigned projects.
• Provide guidance and task direction to Junior Estimators.

Expected Level of Independence

Estimators are expected to independently manage smaller CMR and design-build projects and produce complete, well-supported estimates. They recognize when issues require additional technical, operational, or leadership input and communicate those issues before they affect the project.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of construction education and industry experience.
• Approximately three to seven years of progressively responsible construction estimating, project engineering, field, trade, preconstruction, or related experience.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, and other project documents.
• Knowledge of building construction methods, materials, systems, sequencing, and trade coordination appropriate to the position level.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to perform detailed work accurately while managing multiple deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with owners, designers, subcontractors, suppliers, operations personnel, and company leadership.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn and effectively use estimating, takeoff, scheduling, document management, and collaboration software.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to project sites, client meetings, and other business locations as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with construction manager at risk or design-build project delivery.
• Experience developing conceptual, schematic design, design development, or guaranteed maximum price estimates.
• Experience with educational, university, municipal, institutional, industrial, or other complex building projects.
• Knowledge of concrete, masonry, general trades, or other self-performed construction.
• Field, project management, superintendent, trade, or project engineering experience.
• Experience with project scheduling, phasing, logistics planning, and early procurement.
• Experience presenting estimates and cost recommendations to owners and design teams.
