City of Toledo Collins Park WTP High Service Pump Station Improvements

Toledo, Ohio

The cohesiveness and team synergy of this Mosser and Kokosing collaboration shaped this joint venture into operating as one unified company, with each joint venture firm supplying 50% of the workforce.

At the City of Toledo’s Collins Park high service pump station, the pumps treated water from the plant to the City’s distribution lines. The improvements project at this plant included renovations/upgrades to the mechanical systems (pumps, piping, etc.), and building. The team worked closely with the City on this project which required phasing as work was being completed in an occupied facility.

Having a total of six large pumps in the building, the original scope of work consisted of the Kokosing Mosser team refurbishing two of these pumps and replacing three of the pumps. Following an early change in the pump design, only one pump was replaced with a new pump and four pumps were refurbished. Four motors were also refurbished ranging from 2,000 HP motors to 3,000 HP motors. The team completed the challenging task of removing and installing the new pumps and motors including the alignment of both pumps and motors which were considerably larger in size in comparison to other similar projects.

Additionally, the Kokosing Mosser team removed, refurbished, and reinstalled 22 large gate valves on the pump discharge piping, ranging from 30” to 48” in size. The team also removed, refurbished and reinstalled six 24” cone valves, supplied three new 24” cone valves, and furnished and installed a new hydraulic pneumatic oil accumulator which actuates the cone valves.

The building work consisted of renovations to the office, control room, and locker rooms, a large masonry restoration on the interior and exterior masonry (subcontracted out), new doors, flooring, roof, etc.

In November 2024, the project received the prestigious Build Ohio Award from the Associated General Contractors of Ohio.
