American Electric Power Service Co.: Transmission Service Center

Upper Sandusky, Ohio

The new American Electric Power (AEP) transmission service center is a 34,370 sf pre-engineered metal building that includes office areas and multiple service bays along with a detached shed and fuel station.

With an ideal location near a major highway, the new service center houses daily administrative personnel and mechanics and is also used as an emergency crisis center for AEP workers.

Included in the administrative area of the building are four conference rooms, a fitness room, locker rooms with showers and a kitchen area. The garage features a tool storage area, loading dock, overhead crane, welding area, wash bay, fourteen overhead doors, and a fleet maintenance area with two fully integrated lubrication systems for maintenance on the aerial trucks. Also included is an owner-customized fuel station that holds 5,000 gallons of fuel. The site also includes a 6,000 sf cold storage shed for equipment and trailers.

Upon starting the project, Mosser encountered objectionable soils that threatened to adversely affect the project schedule. However, through the diverse experience of Mosser’s team, a plan was immediately put into place using lime stabilization tactics. This not only kept the project on schedule, but allowed it to be completed two months early!
