University of Toledo Public Safety Center
Toledo, Ohio
Mosser served as the general contractor for this new, modernized, Public Safety Center for the University of Toledo Police and Ohio State Highway Patrol. This central hub provides the Ohio State Highway Patrol with a centralized location to respond to calls in northeast Toledo faster than from the previous post in Swanton, Ohio. The center also replaced the University of Toledo Police’s dispatch in the main campus’ transportation center.
The 18,500 sf Public Safety Center features a concrete storm shelter in the middle of the building that doubles as a locker room area. Center amenities also include a sally port for the Highway Patrol, a large training room, evidence rooms, firearm cabinets and storage, a blood alcohol content room, and a workout area for University of Toledo employees. The front facade of the building showcases a clear story and a sheer wall so that the safety center can be used as a storm shelter.
Mosser’s experienced team showcased innovation, adaptability, and exemplary communication on the project and also with the owner and architect. This allowed the team to make spontaneous adjustments when solving project issues. For example, there was a discrepancy in the dimensions of the planned exterior brick versus what was delivered to the site. Mosser’s masons recognized the difference before laying any brick and formulated a new plan on site. The masons successfully executed the brick layout which maintained the requested exterior aesthetic and kept the project on schedule.
