Water Flowin' at Cannaley Treehouse Village

On Friday, June 19, there was an unusual sound blowing through the trees at Oak Openings Preserve in Swanton, Ohio.  It was the hustle and bustle of a Mosser construction site.

After learning of an opportunity to donate construction services for the Toledo Metroparks Cannaley Treehouse Village, Mosser offered to install a waterline and septic tank for bathrooms and showers in the Village.

Mosser is excited to be a part of this one-of-a-kind experience that is located down the road from our Toledo office. Mosser is built upon its commitment to being a trusted community partner and giving back to the community. What better way to continue that commitment than to donate our building expertise for such a unique project that will be enjoyed by so many!

Exploring Cannaley

The Treehouse Village is currently made up of:

  • A six-person treehouse
  • A four-person treehouse
  • Two, two-person treehouses
  • Three tent/hammock platforms for camping in the trees
  • A common treehouse with seating for up to 49 people
  • A crow’s nest linked to the common treehouse by a canopy walk

The four private treehouses and tent platforms will be available to rent for overnight stays, while the common treehouse will be available for the public to rent for special events like corporate outings, parties and more!

New Water Line

Two treehouses currently have composting toilets. Once the water line installation is complete, all overnight treehouses will have access to restrooms and showers. A leach field is also being built for the septic tank.  The leach field uses organic substances to remove impurities as liquid waste drains from the tank.

The Cannaley Village has already become a highly-anticipated destination hot spot for not just Ohioans, but also people from all over the country to experience nature from, literally, a birds-eye view.

Creating a Destination

The Treehouse Village will be the newest addition to the 420-acre Beach Ridge Area. The area also includes a 12-mile mountain bike trail, a FitPark outdoor fitness area, and a new multi-use facility with a bicycle theme that also houses restrooms and showers to service treehouse guests.

Oak Openings already offers two campgrounds, two rentable cottages, two lakes for fishing and kayaking, as well as trails for hiking, cycling and horseback riding. Metroparks Toledo has really ensured there is something for everyone to enjoy!

A Regional Impact

Metroparks Toledo has done an outstanding job of finding creative ways to connect people with nature. In addition, the Treehouse Village will also add to the positive economic impact that the Metroparks provide from not only the rental cost, but through promoting tourism to the area. It is always a pleasure working with local non-profits in our region. We are always looking for new ways to donate our time or efforts back to the community. We look forward to spending time amongst the trees when the Village officially opens in Spring 2020.
