Firelands Lee C. Jewett Sports Medicine Center

Sandusky, Ohio

The Lee C. Jewett Sports Medicine Center, a Firelands Regional Health facility, is located inside the new Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio. The 45,000 sf facility houses sports medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pain management, athletic training, sports performance and orthopedic programs. Mosser, the CM at Risk for both the Sports Medicine Facility and Cedar Point Sports Center projects, worked for three distinct and separate owners. Decisions made by each owner impacted the others and Mosser successfully coordinated all details among all stakeholders in the project.

The facility includes a 7,200 sf physical therapy gym with a dedicated sports performance area complete with a competition-level track surface and turf area. Also included is an aquatic therapy center, featuring two plunge pools and a large hydrotherapy pool to provide various treatment programs and performance training regimens. The hydrotherapy center has three dedicated private locker rooms with toilets and a shower located off of a separate area for scheduled patients. The facility’s exterior showcases a glass wall with transparent graphics to allow for natural light while maintaining patient privacy.

Mosser provided design flexibility in accommodating the owner when grants or donations were acquired after construction started, allowing them to expand the Firelands Lee C. Jewett Sports Medicine Center project scope. Communication was key to completing these value-added change orders while maintaining the original client schedule.
